Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Google Spotlight Stories, the experimental unit of Google ATAP that explores immersive and interactive 360 storytelling, previewed a trailer earlier today at the Annecy film festival in France for its upcoming project Sonaria.

Cartoon Brew offers the exclusive online debut of the project teaser, which is described by the Spotlight Stories team as its first experimental animated film:

Sonaria follows two ever-changing creatures as they flow from one life form to another in an immersive tale of sound and light. The project is co-directed by Scot Stafford and Los Angeles based animation studio Chromosphere. Camille Cellucci, a veteran of the vfx industry, is producing.

Stafford has been the creative director of music and sound for the entire Spotlight Stories project, and has composed the music for previous Spotlight Stories including Windy Day, Buggy Night, Duet, On Ice, Special Delivery, and the Oscar-nominated Pearl. Stafford and his music collective, Pollen Music Group, developed new techniques for spherical and spatial audio on 360 mobile for Justin Lin’s Google Spotlight Story, Help.

Chromosphere, the boutique shop founded by Kevin Dart (Steven Universe, The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show), recently made an impact with its brand storytelling short June, commissioned by Lyft.

Like the previous projects in the Spotlight Stories series, Sonaria will be made available for mobile and vr platforms. A release date has not yet been announced.
