Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Filmmaker and animation innovator David OReilly has announced a new game project called Everything. Watch the trailer for the project below:

While OReilly is best known for his short films such as Please Say Something and The External World, which have had an incalculable effect on contemporary animation, he’s also dabbled in games before, releasing the meditative Mountain in 2014.

In Everything, which OReilly describes as a “consciousness simulator/open-universe exploration game,” every single object is a playable character. “If you can see it, you can be it,” OReilly explained in a post on the Playstation blog. “The game lets you see the entire universe from the point of view of the thousands of things in it. In other words, there is no distinction between you and the world, or between a level and a character. All these things experience and interact with the world differently. Everything lets you be anything you want. If you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a horse, or a paperclip, or the sun, this is for you. Your main power in the game is Being (there are more but I won’t ruin the surprise).”

Responding to a commenter on the Playstation blog, OReilly wrote that Everything is “definitely an extension of the same ideas that went into Mountain. Creating Mountain and the fact that it found an audience gave me confidence that this could be made.”

The game will be available exclusively for PS4 at a yet-to-be-announced date.
