Phil Lord and Chris Miller Create Pilot for ‘Son Of Zorn’ Series
A barbarian warrior would rather battle enemies than work a boring office job in the upcoming animated/live-action television comedy, Son of Zorn.
The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s newest project wrapped production last week on a pilot presentation at Fox, according to a Deadline report. Actors Jason Sudeikis, Cheryl Hines, Tim Meadows, and Artemis Pebdani have now joined Johnny Pemberton for Son of Zorn’s deconstructed fantasy, in which the eponymous animated warrior (voiced by Sudeikis) suffers through suburban banality after reconnecting with his live-action son, played by Pemberton, and ex-wife Edie, played by Hines.
It’s a high-concept set-up that could prove promising, if Lord and Miller, also on board as executive producers, are given the freedom to run as wild and funny as they did in their similarly high-concept, and very successful, Lego feature, which was nevertheless snubbed by the Academy Awards. Greater ambition from showrunners Reed Agnew (Crank Yankers) and Eli Jorne (Wilfred), as well as executive producer Seth Cohen (Last Man On Earth) and director Eric Appel (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) would come in quite handy as well, as none of those shows are particularly known for it.
After all, The Lego Movie is a very hard act to follow, especially since Lord and Miller are also working on a sequel, as well as a Han Solo feature and a widescreen adaptation of DC Comics’ lightspeed hero The Flash. One hopes that Son of Zorn, for all of its comedic hijinks, can be taken seriously enough to compete with Lord and Miller’s multiple projects. Stay tuned.
