Cartoon Network Orders ‘Summer Camp Island’ Series by Julia Pott
Julia Pott, first mentioned on this site eight years ago, is getting her own Cartoon Network series, Summer Camp Island.
The series is based on a pilot of the same name that Pott created for Cartoon Network. That pilot started screening on the festival circuit last year and was most recently in competition at Sundance. Summer Camp Island will follow Oscar and his best friend Hedgehog, who attend a magical summer camp. They will “navigate mysteries and wonders of the magical camp where camp counselors are witches, horses become unicorns, and monsters live under the bed,” and their adventures include meeting a talking shark in a swimming pool and making friends with the moon.
“Summer Camp Island is a great example of the kind of creativity generated by our acclaimed studio shorts program,” said Rob Sorcher, Cartoon Network chief content officer. “We are all wanting to spend summers inside this timeless and magical world captured by Julia’s signature warmth and inventiveness.”
Pott, a British animator and illustrator, established her reputation with animated shorts like The Event and Belly, but more recently has transitioned to the industry side, working as a writer on CN’s Adventure Time series.
Cartoon Network Studios is producing Summer Camp Island, slated to debut in 2018. They have not indicated how many episodes will be in the first season.
