‘Adventure Time’ Crew Reflects On End of Series: “It’s A Special Thing, I Think”

Cartoon Network announced this week that Adventure Time would end production after its ninth season, which is currently in production. New episodes will continue to debut through 2018, and there will eventually be 142 episodes of the series.

CN’s announcement of the series’ impending closure included this statement from creator Pendleton Ward:

“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives and make a show that was personal to us and that had jokes, too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

Beyond Ward’s official statement, however, a slew of Adventure Time crewmmembers, past and present, weighed in on Twitter about the impending finale of the series. Many of the artists who commented have gone on to create their own high-profile animation projects for Cartoon Network, such as Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe) and Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall).
