Top Story: Despite A Large Number Of Detractors, Animation Guild Members Ratify New Contract

This Gertie the Dinosaur and tuxedoed Winsor McCay garage kit is especially appropriate in 2014, the 100th anniversary of McCay’s seminal animated film. But it’s not a new piece: ILM modelmaker Carol Bauman sculpted and released it back in 1996 through her company Tullymonster. (She is currently a model supervisor at Kerner Optical.) The solid resin figure was hand-painted by Bill Craft of Craft Beast Designs.

Although Gertie was never animated in color, she appeared in color on McCay’s poster, which is what Bauman used for color reference:

The figure is rather difficult to find nowadays at a reasonable price, but McCay’s 1914 film is readily available online:
