Fuzzy Door Tech, launched earlier this year by Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Productions, has released its Viewscreen suite of production visualization tools, which includes Viewscreen Studio and Viewscreen Scout.

Viewscreen Studio allows filmmakers and camera operators to visualize and animate scenes in real time across multiple cameras. Assets can be visualized and synchronized across multiple cameras’ viewfinders during filming, allowing operators to set up their ideal shots. Meanwhile, actors can use the software to animate digital characters from their phones.

Viewscreen Scout is a real-time scouting app for iPhone that allows users to pre-visualize scenes, walk sets virtually, block movements, visualize lighting, and more, before cameras start rolling.

Viewscreen was created by Fuzzy Door vfx supervisor Brandon Fayette and software developer Gene Reddick, who were tasked with creating a tool that would allow users to visualize and animate virtual assets in real-time.

MacFarlane has used the software during the production of Hulu’s popular sci-fi series The Orville: New Horizons and Peacock’s upcoming series prequel to Ted. On the latter, he was able to animate the stuffed protagonist’s face and body movements while filming.

According to MacFarlane:

Viewscreen takes the guesswork out of the directing process. Now, you can see vfx elements in real time as you’re shooting. It’s a true advantage for every facet of filmmaking because it accelerates everything we do. It allows for faster decision-making, quicker visualizations, and provides a clear framework for post-production to ensure the director’s vision is accurately achieved.

Faith Sedlin, Fuzzy Door Tech president, added:

The Viewscreen suite of tools is focused on production visualization, or ProVis for short. ProVis is the ability to visualize digital assets in a live scene in real time – any time during production. Ultimately, with Viewscreen, you can evaluate, animate, and fine-tune every aspect of your production to capture the perfect shots in fewer takes.

Viewscreen Studio is compatible with Mac OS and Windows 11. Viewscreen Scout works on iOS devices, including iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max and higher or iPad Pro M1 and higher. Viewscreen Scout is included with the purchase of Viewscreen Studio or can be purchased independently.

The full Viewscreen suit is now available to U.S. and Canadian productions. Pricing will vary based on the requirements and complexity of the production. More information is available on the Viewscreen website.
