Titmouse, one of the largest independent animation studios in L.A., just got larger. Here are the details of its expansion:

  • Later this year, Titmouse is set to open a new studio in Burbank, L.A. The company has secured a long-term lease on a 95,000-square-foot office space at 2835 North Naomi Street.
  • The studio will be Titmouse’s fourth. Founded in Hollywood in 2000, the company has since expanded to New York City and Vancouver. It will remain headquartered in Hollywood, but the new Burbank space will give it a foothold in the heart of California’s animation industry, and help draw talent who live in the San Fernando Valley.
  • Speaking of which, Titmouse plans to hire 250 staff members to add to its existing workforce of 700. The company is rapidly expanding its slate: just last month, it signed a production commitment overall deal with Netflix. The deal is for original adult animated series — the area in which Titmouse has scored many of its biggest hits.
  • Titmouse and Netflix have already partnered on series such as Big Mouth and the forthcoming The Midnight Gospel. The studio’s other credits include Mao Mao, Heroes of Pure Heart (image at top), The Venture Bros., Superjail!, Metalocalypse, Black Dynamite, and Niko and the Sword of Light (for which it won an Emmy).
  • As the streaming wars intensify, production companies are snapping up office space in and around L.A. to cope with the growing demand for content. This trend has surged in the last five to seven years, according to Drew Planting, founder and managing partner at GPI Cos. (the property developer leasing out Titmouse’s new studio). “There is a severe shortage,” Planting told the Los Angeles Times.
