Breaking: The Animation Guild Reaches Tentative Agreement With AMPTP
What If... Zombies!? What If... Zombies!?

Stellar Creative Labs has opened a new studio in Toronto which will focus on high-end series and film productions. According to the studio, its first production will be an adult cg animated series for a well-known streaming service, but details are being kept under wraps for now.

The new studio was established as a hybrid in-person/work-from-home facility with line producer Tracy Grant at the helm. She and her team have already begun the staffing process. “Our goal is to start with smaller teams in multiple departments, bringing brilliant Toronto and Ontario talent to this new series and the Stellar Creative Culture,” Grant explained in a release.

Studio founder Hasmi Ferguson explained the motivation behind opening a studio in Toronto, saying: “We have been inundated with applications from experienced, exceptional Ontario artists who want to work on high quality adult properties, something Stellar has garnered a reputation for producing. I spent my formative years in animation in Toronto, starting at Nelvana, and I look forward to working with past colleagues and new artists from Ontario once again.”

A relative newcomer on the scene, Stellar was launched five years ago in Vancouver by Ferguson and Bert Van Brande. In its few years of operations, the studio has notched some impressive credits, including Disney’s Marvel series What If?…, as well as Disney Channel’s Baymax Dreams and Disney Junior’s Fancy Nancy. The studio is currently wrapping production on the final episodes of Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda: Dragon Knight, which first launched on Netflix in July.

Stellar’s Vancouver studio is currently working on Marvel Zombies for Disney+, among other projects.
