‘Sausage Party’ Director Conrad Vernon And ‘Game Of Thrones’ Creator George R.R. Martin Join Bizaar, A New Adult Animation Studio
An unlikely alliance of creative and business partners have gathered at a new, independent adult animation-oriented company, Bizaar Studios.
The company announce last week that its advisory board is comprised of Game of Thrones fantasy author George R.R. Martin, director Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party and the upcoming Shrek 5), and entrepreneur and former music industry executive Jimmy Iovine. The trio are described as “key stakeholders” in the Los Angeles-based Bizaar, which aims to develop, market, and distribute original adult animated films and series.
Here’s what we currently know about the company and its ambitions in the animation space:
- Bizaar’s co-founders are Amir Mohamadzadeh, Jeremy Iovine (Jimmy Iovine’s son), and Eric Bromberg. Mohamadzadeh and Iovine have run their own ad agency, Rosewood Creative, for the past decade. Bromberg, who is Bizaar’s president, was previously founder of the short-lived Dust Studios, which aimed to develop and distribute sci-fi films, and was svp of its parent company, digital-first studio company Gunpowder & Sky.
- Bromberg noted that the studio’s name is reflective of its ethos: “We wanted something eccentric and different, so we combined (1) ‘Bizarre’ (weird) with (2) ‘Bazaar’ (a cool marketplace of content).”
- The company’s key mission is to produce original content. It is looking for adult animation that is “provocative, experimental, and edgy” in multiple genres including “comedy to drama to horror.”
- While the studio is currently distributing content on Youtube and intends to use other free ad-supported streaming services, it is also planning to launch a proprietary platform for its content.
- Bizaar co-founder Jeremy Iovine said in a statement: “Great can come from anywhere. It’s our goal to find and partner with creators pushing the art form forward to tell stories that will redefine what people have come to expect from adult animation.” Co-founder Amir Mohamadzadeh added, “We’re building a sanctuary for indie creators and Hollywood veterans alike – to collaborate, experiment, innovate, and tell stories that challenge conventions.
