Three former creative directors from the now shuttered Atlanta-based Primal Screen Studio have banded together to open a new local animation company, Space Monster Studio.

Primal Screen’s former creative directors Donald Emerson, Joe Kubesheski, and Rob Shepps decided to merge their collective 20+ years of animation experience to launch Space Monster Studio to fill the creative void left behind. “When Primal Screen
closed, we knew we had a good thing going, so we figured why not take it to the next level,” Emerson said in a press release.

The sudden closing of Primal Screen Studio in April of this year wiped out the local animation industry stalwart known for 30 years of producing on-air branding for networks like Cartoon Network, Sprout, and PBS Kids.

The trio have stayed in Atlanta to build this venture, focusing on animation and motion design. They plan to hire local from their “robust network of talented artists and producers.”

Per their release, the studio’s animation mission is:

To push the boundaries of animation and motion graphics while delivering results that surprise and delight. With its combination of award-winning experience, collaborative spirit, and fresh creative energy, Space Monster is poised to make waves in the animation world.
