Animation and vfx studio Animal Logic has unveiled plans to significantly grow its presence in Vancouver with the construction of a new studio facility.

Here are details on what is being planned:

  • Scheduled to be completed in 2025, the 110,000 square feet purpose-built studio will anchor Vancouver’s M4 building. M4 will be one of four buildings which make up the Main Alley development, a 730,000 square feet “collaborative campus” dedicated to the creative and tech industries.
  • The new space is nearly two-and-a-half times the size of Animal Logic’s current 45,000 square foot Vancouver studio in the Yaletown neighborhood.
  • The expanded space will allow for Animal Logic to hire 300 new employees. According to the company, it will diversify its workforce and hire recent graduates as well as industry veterans.

  • Animal Logic is based out of Sydney, Australia and opened its Vancouver office in 2015 to work on a slate of films with Warner Bros. Pictures, the first being The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Since then, the company has maintained a full pipeline at its Canadian offices, including upcoming Warner Bros. releases DC League of Super-Pets and Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz.
  • “It’s exciting to be able to design a space for our hybrid workforce that fosters an interconnected, collaborative, and creative environment for our talented employees and their development, whilst also supporting our sustainability initiatives,” said Sharon Taylor, chief operating officer of Animal Logic. In terms of the latter, the Main Alley campus is targeting to achieve net zero carbon lifecycle and will be connected to two low-carbon district energy systems, including a cooling plant operated by Creative Energy and the City’s Neighborhood Energy Utility (NEU).
  • The expansion is supported by Westbank and broker Colin Scarlett of Colliers International Canada.
