Boomerang Boomerang

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down its standalone classic cartoon streaming service Boomerang. The service’s last day will be September 30, 2024.

After that date, many of the cartoons currently on the service, including Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, and Courage the Cowardly Dog, will be available for streaming on WBD’s Max streaming platform.

The consolidation of the platforms is not entirely a surprise. The SVOD Boomerang app launched in 2017, before the company launched HBO Max (now rebranded as Max) in 2020. After the launch of Max, which consolidated a wide range of entertainment in a single streaming destination, the idea of a standalone platform only for vintage cartoons was a tough sell to consumers. The company has never released figures on the number of Boomerang service subscribers.

According to WBD, current Boomerang users will have their subscription automatically transferred to Max’s ad-free version with no change to the price “until further notice.”
