Top Story: Despite A Large Number Of Detractors, Animation Guild Members Ratify New Contract

While it raids its back catalog of adult animation series for reboots, ViacomCBS is also making it easier for us to revisit those original shows themselves.

Classic series from MTV and Comedy Central are now available to watch on Comedy Central Animation, a new channel on the conglomerate’s free streaming service Pluto TV. Its programming includes Beavis and Butt-Head, Daria, Drawn Together, Legends of Chamberlain Heights, Triptank, and Ugly Americans, as well as the puppet show Crank Yankers.

It remains unclear when or whether Comedy Central Animation will launch in territories outside the U.S. where Pluto TV operates, including European and Latin American nations. Cartoon Brew has reached out to the streamer for comment.

Pluto TV is a free, advertising-supported streaming service which arranges most of its programming into digital linear channels. As of last month, it had 28.4 million active users.

The Comedy Central Animation channel is in line with ViacomCBS’s flurry of reboots — a strategy spearheaded by the new Adult Animation Unit. Shows destined for revivals or new spin-offs include South Park, Beavis and Butt-Head, Clone High, and Daria (which will get a spin-off series, Jodie). A plan to bring back Ren & Stimpy remains a question mark – it had reportedly been shelved, but Viacom has declined to comment on those reports.

Most of these new shows are destined for Comedy Central and MTV. But the backdrop to this strategy is the development of CBS All Access, which is due to be rebranded and relaunched as Paramount+ — a fully-fledged SVOD competitor — next year.
