Peter Ramsey, Shannon Tindle, ‘Stranger Things’ Producers Team Up For Netflix’s ‘Lost Ollie’
An all-star crew of talented artists and filmmakers, from both animation and live action, have gathered at Netflix to produce a hybrid family series.
Lost Ollie, which has been in the works for four years, is being unveiled today.
Here are the details:
- The plot is as follows: “Lost Ollie is the story of a lost toy, searching across the countryside for the boy who lost him, and the story of the boy who lost more than a best friend. An epic adventure to reunite in the face of all the dangers that childhood can throw at them.”
- The family series is described as live action, but some characters, including Ollie, will be cg-animated (at Industrial Light & Magic). There will be four episodes of 45 minutes each.
- Lost Ollie is created and written by Shannon Tindle, an Emmy-winning designer, story artist, and director who created Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings. The series’s director is Peter Ramsey, who won an Oscar last year for co-directing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Both Tindle and Ramsey are also executive-producing.
- The show is based on a story developed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, which later became the book Ollie’s Odyssey. The pair previously collaborated on the Oscar-winning animated short The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Joyce also wrote the book series that inspired Ramsey’s feature Rise of the Guardians.
- Oldenburg and Lampton Enochs are executive-producing for Flight School, the studio that was born from the merger of Moonbot Studios and Reel FX’s vr/ar team. Moonbot was founded by Oldenburg, Enochs, and Joyce, and produced Morris Lessmore.
- Also joining as executive producers are Shawn Levy and Josh Barry for 21 Laps Entertainment. The production company is best known for Stranger Things, and is currently producing for Netflix as part of a multi-year exclusive deal. Emily Morris will serve as co-executive producer.
