Netflix Fall Calendar: ‘Wendell & Wild,’ ‘Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio’ Get Streaming Release Dates
Netflix has released its fall feature film schedule, and four animated titles were included on the list.
Each of the four will arrive on the streamer between now and December 9 and each will get at least a limited theatrical run, but how limited hasn’t been shared just yet. In any case, all four films will likely qualify for the 2023 Oscars.
In order of release date, the four films are:
Wendell & Wild – Henry Selick
In Select Theaters: October 21
Netflix Release: October 28
Just in time for Halloween, Wendell & Wild (co-written with and starring Oscar-winner Jordan Peele) is Selick’s first feature since 2009’s Coraline. The filmmaker’s directorial debut, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, came out just before Halloween in 1993 and become a modern classic, so expectations are high for this film. Selick and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein are producing for The Gotham Group. Executive producers are Win Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw, Peter Principato and Joel Zadak for Principato-Young, and Lindsay Williams and Eddie Gamarra for The Gotham Group. Argentinian artist Pablo Lobato designed the characters.

My Father’s Dragon – Nora Twomey

From Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, My Father’s Dragon adapts the eponymous Newbery-honored children’s book from author Ruth Stiles Gannett. The story centers on a young boy who is struggling to cope after a move to the city with his mother. In his frustration, Elmer runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon waiting to be rescued. The boy’s adventures see him experience encounters with ferocious beasts, a mysterious island, and an enduring friendship.
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol – Stephen Donnelly
In Select Theaters: November 18
Netflix Release: December 2
Timeless Films (Koati, Extinct) produces in association with Axis Studios and Stephen Donnelly (Monster High: Welcome to Monster High) directs this musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story. The film features re-imagined songs from two-time Academy Award winner Leslie Bricusse.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio – Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson
In Select Theaters: TBA
Netflix Release: December 9
Directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (The PJs, animation department on Fantastic Mr. Fox), 2022’s third Pinocchio feature is likely the year’s most highly anticipated adaptation. Done in stop-motion, the film’s puppets were supplied by Wooden Boy’s Georgina Hayns (Corpse Bride). Animation is handled by Shadowmachine’s Portland studio with El Taller del Chucho in Guadalajara, Mexico.
