‘Miraculous’ Debuts In Second Place On Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 As Four Anime Series Make The Non-English-Language TV List
Jeremy Zag’s Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie debuted in second place on Netflix’s global top 10 for English-language films for the week of July 24-30, pulling in a massive 20.8 million hours viewed. All that despite only being available since Friday.
The musical feature is directed by Zag, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Bettina López Mendoza and wrote the film’s original songs. On Animation Studios in Montreal handled Miraculous’ animation.
The Film’s debut continues a decent little hot streak for Netflix originals, although this one wasn’t produced by Netflix but rather acquired, which has now seen four straight titles debut in the global top 10: Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Magician’s Elephant, Nimona, and now Miraculous.
That run marks a strong turn-around for the platform, which pitched more misses than hits in 2022 with the likes of Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood, Wendell & Wild, and My Father’s Dragon all failing to crack the top 10 on their releases.
The only other animated film in last week’s top 10 was Dreamworks’ Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which finished in eighth place.
That said, four of the streamer’s global top 10 non-English-language series were anime titles during the frame, demonstrating once again just how important maintaining a diverse animation catalog is to the platform.
Last week, the newly-launched second season of Baki Hanma was second place in the global top 10 with 6.4 million views (33 million hours), My Happy Marriage was sixth with 2.7 million views (4.3 million hours), Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead was ninth with 1.8 million views (2.1 million hours), and Jujutsu Kaisen was tenth with 1.6 million views (2.6 million hours viewed).
Riding the Barbie hype train, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse season one finished last week in sixth place on the English-language tv list while top 10 regular Cocomelon finished in tenth.
