The Pinkfong Company, the South Korean producer responsible for the sticky Baby Shark earworms, has their fingers on the pulse of animated entertainment and appears to be on the verge of another breakout hit. This time, it’s the fully-cg-animated series Sealook, and if the trajectory of the show’s first few months are any indication, we should expect to be seeing a lot more of these characters.

Here’s a look at how the series is breaking out:

  • Sealook, which premiered December 1, 2022, on Youtube, reached one million subscribers this past Monday. (As of Thursday evening, that number has further ballooned to 1.29 million subscribers.) The property has gained an additional 778K followers on Tiktok, while adding a more modest 10.9K Instagram.
  • The series focus on a group of silly seals in a wildlife sanctuary who partake in various dialogue-less (but sound effects-heavy) antics. The series is co-produced by Million Volt, the Korean animation studio founded by the creators of the series Larva.
  • Don’t be fooled by the cute designs that look like they belong in a preschool series. The show’s smart use of contemporary music styles and idiosyncratic humor has made it a hit across a broad range of age groups. In fact, Pinkfong reports that the majority of viewers are adults, with 40% of the audience in the 25-34 year-old demographic and 22% in the 18-to-24 range.
  • The series, which debuts new episodes on Thursday and Saturday, is currently most viewed in the U.S., U.K., South Korea, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India.
