Animation Coming To Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Criterion, Mubi, And More In April 2023

There is an exciting mix of new, returning, and classic animation headed to streaming platforms in April.

Disney+ is home to several of the month’s most anticipated streaming releases, including season three of Big City Greens and the debut of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. There’s also a new Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short coming in April, the first produced by Disney in nearly 95 years. And fans of The Owl House will be saying goodbye to the popular series as its final special airs on linear tv on April 8 before hitting Disney+ on April 9.

Netflix is premiering new seasons of several of its most popular original and licensed kids and family series including CoComelon, The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib, Oggy Oggy, and Ada Twist Scientist. That said, there is a striking lack of grown-up animation coming to Netflix in April, meaning audiences looking for more mature programming will have to look elsewhere.

One streamer with plenty to offer fans of adult animation is Hulu, which is getting an impressive lineup of Crunchyroll-distributed anime titles in April. Among them are Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, and Mob Psycho.

HBO Max has more animated titles coming out in April than it has in a long time, highlighted by season five of Looney Tunes Cartoons, the new Adult Swim series Royal Crackers, and the original 2002 series Clone High, which is getting a reboot this spring.

David Lynch fans have cause to celebrate as an entire slate of his animated shorts, as well as many of his live-action works, will be available on Criterion from the first of the month. Meanwhile, Mubi continues to showcase animation in its carefully curated lineup with both Waltz With Bashir and The Triplets of Belleville headed to the platform.
