The Bad Guys The Bad Guys

Dreamworks Animation’s recent feature The Bad Guys will be spun off as a holiday special that will debut on Netflix in 2023.

Details:

  • The special is being directed by Dreamworks Animation vet Bret Haaland (executive producer on Fast & Furious Spy Racers, All Hail King Julien, Monsters vs. Aliens series, and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) and executive produced by Haaland and Katherine Nolfi.
  • Logline: “Set before the events of the feature, there’s nothing the Bad Guys love more than Christmas morning — because while everyone is home opening presents, it’s the perfect time to execute their city-wide holiday heist. But when Christmas is unexpectedly canceled, the Bad Guys must do the unthinkable: reignite the city’s holiday spirit by giving instead of taking.”
  • The Bad Guys opened at no. 1 in the U.S. earlier this year and spent two weekends atop the domestic box office. The film, adapted from Aaron Blabey’s best-selling book series, has grossed over $248 million worldwide.
  • The film debuted on Netflix U.S. on November 1st and topped Netflix’s weekly Top 10 Films in the United States for the week of October 31-November 6. The film is part of a convoluted licensing deal between Netflix and Universal, in which Universal’s animated features are shared between the Peacock streaming service and Netflix.
