Wizart Animation Unveils New Logo After Netflix Launch Of Hit Feature ‘Secret Magic Control Agency’
Russia’s Wizart Animation is refreshing its brand identity, beginning with a new logo: a timeless “W” symbol.
The new design replaces the current logo, which Wizart has been using since its founding in 2007. Set up by specialists in software development and gaming, the company has grown to more than 300 employees. It has seven family features and four preschool tv series to its name, as well as a namesake animation school.
The studio’s portfolio of internationally acclaimed animated titles includes the Snow Queen franchise, Sheep & Wolves, Yoko, The Tales of Wonder Keepers, as well as brand new franchises Secret Magic Control Agency and The Warrior Princess. Its projects have been theatrically released in over 150 countries, acquired by major global streaming services, and selected at various international festivals.
“We have rethought our logo to make it more iconic, simple, and meaningful,” says Vladimir Nikolaev, executive producer of Wizart Animation. “It will become an essential part of our brand refresh.”
“The stars in our logo symbolize our creative people: the employees, all of whom put their heart and soul into movie production. Our team bring their unique talents and skills to all of our projects,” adds Aleksey Zamyslov, art director of Wizart Animation.
The new logo arrives at a turning point for Wizart. During the pandemic, the company has expanded its audience to unprecedented size by partnering with global streaming services. Nothing exemplifies this new direction better than its film Secret Magic Control Agency (image at top), which is on Netflix.
The feature, which is based on the Brothers Grimm’s tale of Hansel and Gretel, was first presented at Cannes’s Marché du Film in 2019. It drew the attention of Netflix, and Wizart engaged in negotiations with the streaming giant that continued at subsequent markets. Netflix ended up releasing the film globally in March 2021.
Secret Magic Control Agency has proven a milestone for both Wizart and Netflix. The film became the first Russian animated feature to be streamed on the platform. It hit #1 in Netflix’s chart of most-watched films in 25 countries, entering the top ten in 80 countries altogether (including the U.S.). For two consecutive days in April it was the most-watched film on Netflix, and it came second in the Nielsen streaming rankings in the week of March 29 to April 4.
The global success of Secret Magic Control Agency happened as a result of Netflix’s distribution campaign and worldwide reach. The streamer suggested the title of the film, which had originally been known as Hansel & Gretel. Wizart also credits Netflix with leveling up the project by creating a stylish marketing campaign.
“Our animation studio is proud of our successes over the past few months, including the Secret Magic Control Agency launch on Netflix,” says Vladimir Nikolaev. The company also notes the positive reviews the film has received.
Looking ahead, Wizart is making a strong effort to continue expanding its audience and improving awareness of its brand. Its stated ambitions are to match the production level of major animation studios and give global audiences great films with touching stories. The change of logo symbolizes this moment of transition, the studio’s global appeal, its friendship with animation amateurs, and its communication about its productions.
