The first edition of the FlipaClip Film Festival (FFF) surpassed all expectations, making waves in the animation world. Over 89,000 artists from over 200 countries participated, dedicating a total of 257,210 hours — equal to 29 years of continuous animation work!

Their efforts resulted in 1,320 official submissions, leading to 25 finalists and 4 winners, one for each category. Here are the winners in each category:

Participants interpreted the same soundtracks in thousands of unique ways, turning identical audio tracks into entirely different plots, characters, and worlds. Each artist brought a fresh perspective to the same stories, transforming each track into something deeply personal and original.

In the Freestyle category, the diversity in entries was astounding. From heartfelt dramas and laugh-out-loud comedies to spine-chilling horror and high-octane action movies, participants pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved with just a mobile device and their imagination.

Masters of Animation Weigh In

Quality and creativity were the core criteria for selecting the winners, and the panel of judges had their work cut out for them. The panel was comprised of respected industry veterans Scott Morse (story artist, Turning Red, Cars, Brave, Soul), Ernest Chan (cg supervisor, Trolls, Dora the Explorer, Kung Fu Panda, Fairly OddParents) and Mauricio Ferrazza (chairperson of the MDC School of Gaming and Animation), who all reported being impressed by both the technical skills and storytelling power of the participants.

Morse expressed his amazement for one of the finalists. “So much fun! Very clear and consistently inventive, with a ton of charming acting and simple yet elegant design – exactly what this story needed to make it successful.”

Creativity was also a key factor in the final decisions. The judges praised the fresh, innovative approaches they saw in each of the movies, recognizing that these creators have distinct voices ready to shape the future of animated storytelling.

Said Ferrazza, “From creative visuals to compelling narratives, every submission offered something unique and inspiring. The experience highlighted the boundless possibilities of animation as an art form and reinforced my appreciation for the passion and dedication of the creators.”

The Revolution Has Begun

With its incredible reach and sheer number of participants, the FlipaClip Film Festival may very well be the biggest online animation event in the world. Due to the overwhelming success of its first edition, FlipaClip is already planning a follow-up.

“We’re just scratching the surface,” said Adri Ofman, chief operations officer of FlipaClip. “Next time, we’ll go even bigger, bolder, and show the world that the future of animation lies in the hands of young multi-talented creators.”

From writing their own scripts and designing characters to storyboarding, animating, and editing their movies with sound and music, the thousands of artists who participated in FFF have proven they have the skills needed to redefine the future of animation.
