Welcome Ian Failes and Brian Gabriel to Cartoon Brew’s Editorial Team
I’m incredibly delighted to announce an expansion of Cartoon Brew’s editorial team, with the addition of two new contributors: Ian Failes and Brian Gabriel.
Ian Failes joins the site as our first dedicated vfx and tech editor. He will cover everything from the latest software tools to CG features to key developments in virtual reality, gaming, and interactive filmmaking.
Ian joins Cartoon Brew from the respected vfx industry resource FX Guide, where he was their senior writer for five years. He is also the author of the recent book, Masters of FX: Behind the Scenes with Geniuses of Visual and Special Effects. His writing skills, knowledge of the visual effects scene, and passion for filmmaking craft are unparalleled, and I look forward to him pushing the site’s coverage in new directions. Ian is based out of Sydney, but travels all over and is currently reporting from the FMX digital art conference in Germany.
It’s also a pleasure to formally announce Brian Gabriel as our site’s legal correspondent. Brian has been contributing to the site for quite a while, and has covered important legal matters that affect our community including the on-going feature animation wage-fixing lawsuit, fair use and copyright issues, and other topics related to artist’s rights.
Reporting on legal issues is integral to the site’s mission of serving the animation community, and Brian brings deep knowledge to topics that affect the animation world, having worked for years as an industry artist in Los Angeles before pursuing a law degree.
