Watch ‘I Am Super,’ A Short-Form Superhero Satire Series from France
A French short-form animated series inspired by the art of underground comics—and the dulcet delivery of Vin Diesel—is now available to watch online.
I Am Super (Je Suis Super) is created by Christophe Blanc (visuals) and Jean-François Oliver (sound and music), for Melting Productions—an independent Paris-based studio. The series follows a quixotic tights-clad superhero with no apparent weaknesses as he dishes out fist-based justice and gruff humor in equal measure.
The Nîmes-based Blanc studied at the Écoles Supérieur des Beaux Art in toulouse, where he founded D-tracks, a video and contemporary art collective. He also produces art and animation under the moniker Valparess.
Originally a fanzine comic strip drawn in ballpoint pen, I Am Super draws inspiration from the styles of underground and indie comic artists like Fletcher Hanks, Pierre La Police, Jean Lecointre, and Robert Crumb.
The animated series was commissioned by France Télévisions’ Studio 4.0 webseries platform, and two seasons’ worth can be screened on YouTube (in French). The first season has also been translated into English and can be viewed here.
The I Am Super and I Do Justice mobile game, in which you too can administer fist-based justice, is available on iTunes and Google Play.
