Don Hertzfeldt’s ‘World of Tomorrow’ Tops SXSW Animation Category
Don Hertzfeldt’s World of Tomorrow has won the animated short category at the SXSW Film Festival, currently taking place in Austin, Texas.
It’s the second big festival win for Hertzfeldt’s latest effort, which also took the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at Sundance earlier in the year. World of Tomorrow will be made available through video-on-demand on Hertzfeldt’s website at the end of March.
Teeth, by Holbrooks, aka UK-born directing duo Tom Brown and Daniel Gray, was recognized with SXSW’s special jury recognition award in the animation category. Teeth is the story of a misguided and intensely focused man, “chronicled through his oral obsessions.”
“We were so honoured to be part of such a beautiful selection of films,” Brown told Cartoon Brew via email. “We gave that film everything we had, and to see it recognized at such an inspiring festival is so humbling.”
In the Title Design category, director Dan Gregoras of Imaginary Forces was awarded the top prize for the Los Alamos drama Manhattan that airs on WGN America. Jeremy Cox was the art director of the opening.
Special jury recognition in title design was awarded to designers Chris Tozer and Marko Anstice for the dark British indie comedy The Fitzroy.
