MTV Entertainment Studios has announced Everybody Still Hates Chris, an animated reimagining of Chris Rock’s 2005 live-action family series, Everybody Hates Chris.
Details:
- Everybody Still Hates Chris, a half-hour adult animated series about Rock’s teenage years as a skinny nerd from a large working class family in 1980s Brooklyn, is to be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios alongside CBS Studios and 3 Arts Entertainment.
- Rock, reprising his role as narrator, also serves as an executive producer of the series alongside Ali LeRoi, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, and Sanjay Shah (King of the Hill, South Park, Central Park), who will also act as showrunner.
- Everybody Still Hates Chris joins South Park and both the film and series returns of Beavis and Butt-Head in a growing arsenal of MTV adult animated content that will be available on Paramount+ and Comedy Central. This arsenal includes previously announced Andy Samberg-produced comedy series Digman! and Jodie, a spin-off movie of the iconic Daria franchise with Tracee Ellis Ross in the titular role.
- News of an Everybody Hates Chris animated series first broke last year, when it was reported that CBS had a project in development with several key figures from the original live-action show.
- CBS president and CEO George Cheeks said of the project: “A reimagining of this groundbreaking, critically acclaimed series has been a source of creative discussions at our Studio for a long time. It’s exciting to join forces with 3 Arts and the comedic genius of Chris Rock as he expands on his vision of the original show in this innovative new format. This also marks another significant in-house collaboration for CBS with Chris McCarthy and our valued partners at MTV Entertainment Studios as we jointly support this marquee series for Paramount+ and Comedy Central.”
- Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, added: “Chris Rock is one of the most gifted comedians of all time and we’re excited to partner with him, 3 Arts, and CBS Studios to bring this to life.”
