France’s Superprod Animation is pitching a new series, Heroic Football, at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse this week, and Cartoon Brew has been given exclusive access to the show’s first trailer.

Packed with vibrant colors, well-designed monsters, and some fun soccer action, the trailer is everything one would expect from Superprod, which has done impressive work on recent kids and family shows such as Warner Bros. Discovery’s Batwheels, Netflix’s Spirit Rangers and Supa Team 4, and Nickelodeon and M6’s Paddington.

Here’s Superprod’s synopsis for Heroic Football, intended for audiences of tweens eight and up:

On Pangéa, a land of legends populated by creatures borrowed from the “Heroic Fantasy” realm and infused with magical runes, soccer isn’t just a sport; it’s the world’s only salvation. An unlikely team of five players brought together against all odds embark on a covert mission: to win Heroic Football matches and secure the enigmatic Dark Rune before time runs out.

According to Superprod Group founders Jérémie Fajner and Clément Clavet, this new series marks a move into an older age bracket for the studio:

Each project we undertake is a chance to delve into fresh realms. With Heroic Football, we aim at captivating a more mature audience, fusing soccer’s exhilaration with the enchantment of storytelling, molding this property into a true saga.”

The series was co-created by prolific French screenwriters Guillaume Mautalent (Miraculous Ladybug, Galactik Football) and Sébastien Oursel (Galactik Football, The Smurfs 2022), and Mautalent handled screenwriting duties. Another Galactik Football vet, director Antoine Charreyron (Batwheels, The Prodigies), will direct all episodes of the new series.

Heroic Football’s visual development was led by Florent Auguy, whose character design work featured in Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse and video games including Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Becoming Human.

The trailer for Heroic Football was made entirely using the Superprod Flow pipeline, which was built on Pixar’s open-source Universal Scene Description tech. Superprod was the first French studio to create a pipeline using the open-source software and presented it publicly earlier this year.
