Fox Entertainment, Hulu Extend Their Streaming Rights Partnership For Primetime Series

Fox Entertainment and Hulu have secured a new multi-year deal for in-season streaming rights to the broadcaster’s primetime series lineup, including a large-scale multi-platform marketing partnership.

Deal details:

• Under the agreement, Fox’s primetime programming, including several animated series, will continue to stream on Hulu the day after they’ve premiered on the linear network. New with this deal, the companies will now jointly market all the shared programming together.
• Animated titles included in the next-day streaming deal with Hulu include The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers.
• The agreement is an expansion on a previous deal between the media companies that was set to expire in September of this year. Financial details of the new deal have not been disclosed.
• The closure of a new deal comes just days after Fox announced two-season renewals for its animated series The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, who first reported the finalization of the agreement, those three titles’ in-season popularity on Hulu was a major factor in the renewal.
• In 2019, Disney purchased 20th Television and 20th Television Animation from Fox and acquired a stake in the Hulu platform. Since then, Fox Entertainment has continued to work closely with 20th Television Animation, paying significant licensing fees for numerous animated series produced by its former subsidiary.
• Hulu and Disney+ already have library rights to all Disney TV Studios-produced Fox shows, and that will not change under the new agreement. Animated shows included in the Fox-Hulu library deal include The Great North and HouseBroken as well as upcoming series including Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis and Grimsburg, executive produced by John Hamm.
