Barney's World Barney's World

First announced by Mattel in early 2023, the toy company’s promised cg animation reboot, Barney’s World, will premiere Monday, October 14, on the streamer Max.

A sneak peek of the first episode will debut October 11 on Barney the Dinosaur’s official Youtube channel. A teaser was released today:

The preschool-centric reboot features cg versions of Barney the purple dinosaur character, his pals Billy and Baby Bop, as well as their three kid best friends David, Mel, and Vivie. This series is the first new production starring the character in 14 years. The singing and dancing dino first rose to global fame in the live-action series, Barney & Friends, which ran for 14 seasons on PBS in the U.S. and ended in 2010.

The new show is produced by Mattel Television Studios and Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana. There will be 52 11-minute episodes which promise original music and reimaginings of classic Barney song classics for a new generation of viewers. No word on whether the earworm “I Love You” will return to haunt us all.

Josh Silverman, Mattel’s chief franchise officer said in a release:

The goal of Mattel Television Studios is to develop and distribute episodic and long-form content that expands Mattel’s characters and storylines across linear and streaming platforms worldwide. Barney nurtures the power of love in all of us, and we are thrilled to bring him back to fans all around the world. We hope this modern revival leaves an impression on young audiences, imparting lessons that will positively influence them as they grow up.

The series is executive produced by Silverman and Michelle Mendelovitz for Mattel and by Athena Georgaklis, Doug Murphy, Mellany Welsh, Troy Reeb, and Pam Westman for Nelvana.

Barney’s World will have its linear premiere on Friday, October 18, on Cartoon Network in the U.S., Cartoonito in EMEA and APAC, and Discovery Kids in LATAM. Select episodes of the series will also be available on Youtube.
