Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations
Bedrock Bedrock

It’s been two years since Fox announced it was developing Bedrock, a primetime adult animated Flintstones reboot with Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks shepherding the project as executive producer. Now, the network has ordered a pilot presentation for the project.

In addition to the news of the commission, the show’s voice cast was announced and includes Stephen Root as Fred, Amy Sedaris as Wilma, Nicole Byer as Betty, Joe Lo Truglio as Barney, and Manny Jacinto as Bamm-Bamm. When the project was first announced it was revealed that in addition to producing, Banks will voice Pebbles.

According to a Deadline report, the series picks up two decades after the events of the original series, with Fred nearing retirement as a grown-up Pebbles starts looking for a career of her own. Bigger changes are afoot as well, as the Stone Age begins to give way to the Bronze Age, creating an uncomfortable situation for the series’ aging protagonists.

Fox Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) are producing the reboot with Banks, Warner Bros. Animation’s Sam Register, and Brownstone Productions’ Max Handelman executive producing. Lindsay Kerns is writing and co-executive producing, while Lon Zimmet is writing and executive producing.

Fox continues to back its adult animation efforts with Bedrock joining the likes of Krapopolis, Grimsburg, Housebroken, The Great North, and legacy shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers.

When Bedrock was announced back in 2021, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said:

Long before the Simpsons and Springfield, the Griffins and Quahog, or even when the Belchers started serving burgers on Ocean Avenue, there were the Flintstones and Bedrock. Their imprint on the animation universe is undeniable and the idea of adapting it for today’s audience is a challenge we here at Fox are very much looking forward to taking on with Warner Bros., Elizabeth, and Lindsay. No pressure whatsoever, really.
