Adult Swim Reveals First Footage From Two New Series: ‘Uzumaki’ And ‘Common Side Effects’
At San Diego Comic-Con last week, Adult Swim revealed sneak peeks at two of its most highly-anticipated titles: Uzumaki (pictured, top right) and Common Side Effects.
First up is Uzumaki, an adaptation of Junji Ito’s supernational horror manga. It will premiere Saturday, September 28, at 12:30 am during the Toonami block, with new episodes airing weekly in Japanese with English subtitles. Both the Japanese and English dub will be available to stream the next day on Max.
A trailer has been released online:
The official series description is as follows:
“Let’s leave this town together,” asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kurouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?
The series is produced by Adult Swim in partnership with Production IG USA. Jason DeMarco is executive producer.
At SDCC, Adult Swim also previewed Common Side Effects, the comedic-thriller from Joe Bennett (Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (Veep, American Dad!, The Office). While the show also previewed its pilot episode at Annecy last month, the first footage from the pilot was uploaded onto Youtube during Comic-Con last week. The six-minute pilot clip can be seen below:
The show follows follows Marshall and Frances, two former high school lab partners who share a secret: Marshall has discovered the world’s greatest medicine, a mushroom that can heal almost anything. But there are plenty of people trying to stop them from getting the word out, including the DEA, big pharma, and international businessmen.
The half-hour series, executive produced by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels (King of the Hill), is produced by Green Street Pictures, of which Bennett is a partner, and Judge and Daniels’s Bandera Entertainment. It is set to premiere in 2025.
