A Story Artist On HBO Max’s ‘Jellystone!’ Reacts To Reactions To The Show
Our Youtube video of the week comes courtesy of Yotam Perel, story artist on HBO Max’s upcoming Jellystone! and droll Youtuber extraordinaire. In his new video, Perel, a.k.a. LazyPillow, reacts to other Youtubers’ reactions to the trailer for Jellystone!. Which makes this article a reaction to a reaction to reactions to the show.
The series revives Hanna-Barbera’s library of characters, dropping the likes of Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and Top Cat into a new narrative world. Many of the Youtubers in Perel’s video are familiar (to varying extents) with the studio’s past, and comment on that, explicitly or implicitly. Watch the video below:
In his deadpan way, Perel takes the Youtubers to task for confusing character design with animation, forgetting the names of B-list Hanna-Barbera characters, and generally failing to honor the “terrible year I spent in the U.S. dedicating my entire being to creating this wonderful show.”
But when they like what they see, Perel likes them: “That video rocked — that was just a kid laughing,” he says of one reaction video. He is also self-deprecating. “Who is the fanbase of Hanna-Barbera cartoons?” he asks. “I don’t think there’s a fanbase anyone cares for — they’re very old men.”
Jellystone! is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, with C.H. Greenblatt (Chowder, Harvey Beaks) onboard as showrunner. The series debuts on HBO Max on July 29.
