Reel of the Week: Nick DenBoer

It’s safe to say that there aren’t a whole lot of reels out there that look like Nick DenBoer’s reel.

DenBoer’s work falls into something of a grey zone. It’s animation and live-action and vfx and compositing, all mashed together into a single cartoonishly macabre world. Although DenBoer uses standard off-the-shelf software — Cinema 4D, After Effects – he’s using the tools in pursuit of a comic vision that is infrequently seen in the vfx arena.

DenBoer’s profile has been growing in recent years, both with personal works like The Chickening, which enjoyed a healthy run on the festival circuit, and commercial commissions such as this recent music video for Deadmau5. It’s all represented in his reel below:
