‘Foodfight’ Director Larry Kasanoff is Making An ‘Epic Sci-Fi’ Tetris Movie with “Intergalactic Significance”
While there may be some truth to the old adage that in Hollywood no one knows anything, people in Hollywood do know a few things, namely that the animated feature Foodfight! is an epic work of genius and the film’s director Larry Kasanoff is a hot commodity.
Yesterday Kasanoff’s company Threshold Animation Studios announced that he’s partnered with the Tetris Company (did you even know there was a Tetris Company?) to develop a movie based on Tetris. Now you might ask, isn’t that just a bunch of falling squares? Not to cinematic visionary Kasanoff. “Brands are the new stars of Hollywood,” Kasanoff told the Wall Street Journal. No director or cast has been announced, but Kasanoff announced that he already has a story “which makes it a much more imaginative thing.”
“It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie,” says Kasanoff, who was also a producer on the 1995 film adaptation of the videogame Mortal Kombat. “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”
Kasanoff is so confident of the unproduced film’s success that he’s already planning what he’s going to do after the film is a huge hit: “We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness. What you [will] see in Tetris is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance.”
