Trump Reelected President Of United States: Discussion Thread
We try to keep the real world from intruding into our animation bubble, but if you live in the United States, today is anything but a normal day and it’s impossible to act otherwise. Yesterday, the American public reelected Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States of America and his new term will begin on January 20, 2025.
Regardless of which side of the political spectrum you’re on, the next four years promise to be an anxious and challenging new era for American animation artists, even moreso than the turmoil and uncertainty of recent times.
Creative people have had much to contend with over the past few years, including the emergent use of AI in the creative process, the consolidation of corporate media, shifting audience viewing patterns, rapidly rising cost of living in major cities where animation is produced, and a global pandemic that upended traditional production pipelines. Add Trump’s brand politics into the mix and the creative community is entering uncharted territory.
But we’re not writing this to add to the already existing piles of media punditry and opinion. This post is for you, Cartoon Brew readers, to share how you’re doing today. If you don’t mind sharing, let us know what you’re feeling. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future? What will it take to get the animation industry out of its current slump, and does the current political climate help or hurt that? What new creative opportunities do you look forward to in the upcoming years?
