Cartoon Brew Launches A New Podcast – Listen To The First Episode Here
Welcome to the first episode of Cartoon Brew’s new podcast hosted by Jen Hurler.
With this podcast, we aimed to broadly recreate the website experience in an audio format. In other words, a podcast about the animation industry that emphasizes accuracy and thoroughness, insider knowledge about how the industry works, and an independent editorial POV.
But even with these guiding principles, the podcast remains an open-ended experiment. There’s no existing model for the type of podcast that we wanted to create, and we’re not rushing to settle into a formula. So as we refine the podcast, we’re going to continue playing around with different approaches – some episodes will focus on one big theme like this debut episode that looks at the pandemic’s effect on the animation world, while other episodes may feature in-depth interviews, industry-related roundtables, and historical explorations. Hopefully we can keep surprising both listeners and ourselves with the possibilities of this format.
Now, here’s a little bit about your new host:
Jen Hurler graduated with an MFA in computer animation from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and currently teaches storyboarding and story structure at William Paterson University in New Jersey. Prior to getting her MFA, she worked as a story production assistant at Blue Sky Studios for four years, earning credits on The Peanuts Movie (2015), Ice Age: Collision Course (2016), Ferdinand (2017), the upcoming Nimona (2022), and uncredited work on Spies in Disguise (2019). Her personal writing about animation can be found on AnimationComplex.com.
