Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Just what does an Emmy-winning actor do after the astounding success of an edge-of-your-seat drama like Breaking Bad? Make fun of privileged yet decrepit superheroes with an all-star cast and the creators of Robot Chicken in a lewd spoof called SuperMansion, that’s what. The project was previewed at Comic-Con yesterday.

How lewd and crude is it?

“These are my boner pills!” Cranston’s aged Superman analogue Titanium Rex complains aloud in the teaser trailer for SuperMansion that debuted at Comic-Con. “I have issues maintaining erections!”

Produced by Cranston himself with Robot Chicken’s Stoopid Buddy Studios for Sony’s online entertainment network Crackle, SuperMansion follows the ex-Breaking Bad lead as Rex, who attempts, not too well, to help his deteriorating League of Freedom attain relevance again in Storm City, despite all evidence that they should probably just hang it up.

They include the Batman knock-off Black Saturn (who is white), WWII-displaced American Ranger (who can’t believe “our president’s a black man”), the junkie-turned-hulk Brad, and other caricatures that will probably appeal to superhero geeks who enjoy team-ups like the third Robot Chicken DC Comics Special, which is also debuting at this weekend’s Comic-Con blowout.

SuperMansion’s cast generously taps into Robot Chicken’s talent pool, including Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, Tom Root, and Breckin Meyer, as well as Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. But it also features voice-overs from pop-culture standouts like Hellboy’ Ron Perlman, Star Trek’s Chris Pine, and the X-Men franchise’s Famke Janssen, among others.

The show, which Cranston exec produces with Senreich, Green, Zeb Wells, John Harvatine IV, Eric Towner, James Degus and Moon Shot Entertainment, has had a long journey to air. The project was originally developed for Adult Swim as UberMansion, and aired as a pilot back in 2013, even winning a fan-voted pilot contest on Adult Swim, before shifting to Crackle.
