Netflix Inks Deal With Shion Takeuchi, First Woman To Get Overall Animation Deal At Netflix
Shion Takeuchi has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix. Under the terms of the deal, Takeuchi will exclusively develop new series and other projects for the streaming service.
This deal, as far as we know, is Netflix’s first publicly announced overall animation deal with a woman creator. The company also recently announced an overall deal with Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch, and has attracted creators like Guillermo del Toro and Matt Groening for animated series. On the animated feature side, the company has enlisted directors like Sergio Pablos, Glen Keane, Henry Selick, and Taika Waititi.
Takeuchi, 30, graduated from Calarts in 2010, and has since added both tv (Gravity Falls, Regular Show, Disenchantment) and feature film (Monsters University, Inside Out) credits to her writing and story resume.
She tweeted about the news this afternoon:
Well, the cat’s out of the bag! I can finally tell you that I’m making something that I absolutely cannot tell you about. https://t.co/fffVz9WnKY
