Disney Made A ‘Three Caballeros’ TV Series, But Most People Can’t See It
Disney has produced a new animated series inspired by The Three Caballeros, its 1944 Latin American-themed feature that starred Donald Duck, the Mexican rooster Panchito Pistoles, and the Brazilian parrot José Carioca.
The new 13 x 22-minute series, entitled Legend of The Three Caballeros, is currently available only on the Disneylife app, an SVOD service that Disney is trying out in the Philippines. Disneylife is also available in the U.K. and Ireland, but those regions do not carry the show.
Disney hasn’t officially announced the show yet, but fans have been discovering it on the app and spreading the word.
One of the people who worked on the show, Matt Chapman, pointed out on Twitter that it was developed through Disney Interactive, not Disney Television Animation, which handles most of the studio’s animated series.
Frank Angones, a co-producer on the new Ducktales, further commented on his Tumblr that the show has been finished for a while, even before the new Ducktales reboot was produced. He added, “It feels sort of like an alternate universe rooted more in the old Donald shorts than anything Barks-related – there’s no sign of Scrooge, the nephews, Gyro, Duckburg, lots of humans everywhere, etc., with April, May, and June standing in for the kid protagonists.”
No word on when – or if – the show will become available in the U.S., though next year is the 75th anniversary of The Three Caballeros, which seems like an ideal time to make it available.
