Watch: The Breathtaking Scale Of The Chinese Feature ‘New Gods: Yang Jian,’ Coming To Blu-Ray April 25
Light Chaser Animation’s New Gods: Yang Jian is now available on digital platforms, and will become available on Blu-Ray and dvd on April 25.
Ahead of the film’s physical media debut, distributors Shout! Factory and GKIDS have given Cartoon Brew exclusive access to a making-of clip that shows off the immense scale of the Chinese feature and hints at the amount of time spent creating its breathtaking environment.
Directed by Zhao Ji, New Gods: Yang Jian is the second film in Light Chaser Animation’s popular New Gods series of action-fantasy features. Yang Jian was released in China in August of 2022 and became the top film at the mainland China box office over the frame, earning $19.8 million on its opening weekend before finishing its Chinese theatrical run at $82.4 million.
Yang Jian’s synopsis reads:
Thirteen years after Yang Jian imprisoned his sister, the once-powerful hero also known as Erlang Shen now scrapes by as a poor bounty hunter. When a mysterious woman hires him, Yang Jian soon finds himself chasing down a familiar figure. He must stop Chenxiang, his long-lost nephew, who searches for a powerful, but dangerous artifact. As Yang Jian confronts his past, he must face treacherous vigilantes seeking to bring catastrophic destruction.
The Yang Jian Blu-ray comes with several bonus features, including both the original Mandarin-language version and an English-language dub. Other features:
