Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations
Annecy Shorts 2024 Annecy Shorts 2024

With awards season behind us, it’s time to look forward to the 2024 festival circuit, and Annecy, the world’s oldest and most important animation festival, has announced the short films that will compete at this year’s event in June.

Established figures included among the ranks of this year’s competing filmmakers include three-time Oscar nominee/one-time winner Torill Kove with her latest short Maybe Elephants, Annecy 2021 jury distinction winner Florence Miailhe with Papillon, and 2021 jury award winner Nicolas Keppens with Beautiful Men.

France leads this year’s geographically diverse main competition field with 10 films selected, and Canada is second with a half-dozen titles. Several countries contributed two films to this year’s field, including the U.S., Japan, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Poland, Iran, and Portugal – Annecy’s 2024 featured country. Perhaps surprisingly, the U.K. only has one film in the main short competition.

Annecy will unveil its graduation films, tv films, and commissioned films lineups at the end of March, its vr competition in mid-April, and its feature film competition at the end of April. This year’s Annecy awards ceremony will take place on June 15.

Here are the 67 titles programmed to compete Annecy’s four short film sections this year.
