Disney Drops New ‘Wish’ Trailer Ahead Of November Release
Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated feature Wish, which will open in U.S. theaters on November 22.
In the trailer, we get a good look at the paper texture animation techniques refined in the short films Paperman and Feast and cg watercolor-rendering technique previously seen in Far From the Tree. Each of those films also made use of the vector-based Meander drawing system which Disney used again on Wish. The software allows artists to draw strokes, which are then interpolated frame by frame, and “attached” to an underlying cg character.
Here’s what we know about Wish:
- Wish is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chris Buck (Frozen, Frozen 2) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (Raya and the Last Dragon). It’s produced by Peter Del Vecho (Frozen) and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones (Encanto). Jennifer Lee (Frozen) is the movie’s executive producer and co-wrote the screenplay with Allison Moore (Night Sky).
- Original songs were written by singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice. The film’s score was composed by Dave Metzger.
- Disney’s synopsis: “Wish is an all-new musical-comedy welcoming audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.”
- Voice casting includes Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Ramy Youseff, Niko Vargas, Della Saba, and Jon Rudnitsky.
- Disney also released a new poster for the film, which can be seen below.
