If you’ve ever wondered what Seth MacFarlane’s Ted would have been like if it was a violent action-thriller in which an animated Ted and his human partner embark on a mission to save young women from sex traffickers, India has the answer for you.

Meet Teddy.

Written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, Teddy comes out of Kollywood, India’s Tamil-language equivalent of its Hindi-language Bollywood.

Rajan has a reputation for making genre films in Kollywood, including Miruthan (2016), their industry’s first zombie movie, and Tik Tik Tik (2018), Kollywood’s first movie set in space.

To be honest, we weren’t actually sure whether the bear was animated or a petite Indian person in a bear costume. But according to online media reports, including one that the director himself retweeted, the character is motion capture-based animation produced in India.

Teddy is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja through his company Studio Green. It is scheduled for release this summer.
