Here’s one reason not to hate this particular Monday: Sony Pictures Entertainment just released the first trailer for its upcoming The Garfield Movie, coming to theaters May 24.

The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal, who has proved an adept animated comedy filmmaker, having helmed beloved features such as The Emperor’s New Groove and Cat’s Don’t Dance. The film also boasts some serious screenwriting power in Dindal’s The Emperor’s New Groove co-writer David Reynolds, who also penned several Disney animated films, including Finding Nemo and Mulan, earning an Oscar nomination for the former.

Here’s what we know about the The Garfield Movie:

  • Dindal directs from a screenplay by Reynolds and long-time writing partners Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove. It’s based on characters created by Jim Davis.
  • The film is produced by Alcon Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and DNEG, with the latter handling animation.
  • Sony’s synopsis for the film reads: “Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”
  • The film’s voice cast includes Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Cecily Strong, and Ving Rhames.
  • Today’s trailer also came with an option for fans to submit videos of their own pets that may be used as part of The Garfield Movie’s promotional campaign.
