Paramount+ has shared the first trailer for its upcoming animated feature, The Tiger’s Apprentice, and announced it will begin streaming on the platform in the U.S. on February 2, 2024.

Previously slated for a theatrical release, Paramount recently shifted the film over to its streaming platform. Release dates for other territories will be announced soon.

Here’s what we know about The Tiger’s Apprentice:

  • The Tiger’s Apprentice is directed by long-time Dreamworks vet and Shrek the Third co-director Raman Hui and co-directed by Paul Watling (head of story Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Yong Duk Jhun (head of layout Vivo) from a screenplay by David Magee (Life of Pi) and Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok). It’s adapted from Laurence Yep’s book of the same name.
  • The film is produced by Paramount Animation and Jane Startz Productions. Startz produces alongside Sandra Rabins and Bob Persichetti, with Maryann Garger, Kane Lee, and Carlos Baena serving as executive producers.
  • Paramount’s synopsis reads: “The Tiger’s Apprentice follows Chinese-American teenager Tom Lee, whose life changes forever when he discovers he is part of a long lineage of magical protectors known as the Guardians. With guidance from a mythical tiger named Hu, Tom trains to take on Loo, a force that is as powerful as a Guardian but with evil intentions to use magic to destroy humanity. To have a fighting chance against Loo, Tom must reunite all twelve Zodiac animal warriors and master his own newly discovered powers.”
  • The film’s voice cast includes Henry Golding, Brandon Soo Hoo, Lucy Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Leah Lewis, Kheng Hua Tan, Deborah S. Craig, Jo Koy, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, and Poppy Liu.
