Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Minions peddler Illumination, poised to score a major hit this summer with The Secret of Life of Pets, has a second film coming out in 2016, too: Sing.

The studio released Sing’s first full-length trailer yesterday evening:

Written and directed by Garth Jennings (Son of Rambow, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), Sing is the story of a koala (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) who stages a singing competition in a bid to revive his rundown theater. The musical comedy boasts over 85 songs. Illumination head Chris Meledandri has said that the starting point for the movie was looking at what the role of a producer is.

Sing will be released in the U.S. by Universal on December 21; it will mark the first time that Illumination launches a film during the holiday season. The studio will also release two features next year: Despicable Me 3 and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
