Ketchup Entertainment Is In Negotiations With Warner Bros. To Acquire ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’

Warner Bros.’ hybrid Coyote vs. Acme may finally be released, according to a report in Deadline.

The studio is “deep in sale negotiations” with Ketchup Entertainment, which is looking for an all-rights acquisition in the neighborhood of $50 million. Ketchup also acquired domestic rights to WB’s animated feature The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which it released last weekend. The film, which launched in over 2,800 theaters, opened in fifth place with $3.1 million.

Per Deadline, if this current deal goes through, Coyote vs. Acme will be released theatrically in 2026. The Dave Green-directed film has been the subject of much discussion after WB decided to shelve the completed film for a presumed tax write-off.

I was privileged enough to be the only member of the media to attend a cast-and-crew screening in November 2023. At that time, I wrote:

Dave Green’s Coyote vs. Acme isn’t merely good or above-average – it is SUPERB! In a Looney Tunes film, you expect gags, laughs, slapstick, and broad visual comedy, and this film delivers on that promise in the most satisfying ways possible. But you know what you don’t expect? Feeling so deeply for a character that you have to hold back tears. This is as rich a psychological portrait of a cartoon character that has ever been put onto film and it delivers the kind of emotional gut punch that in all my years of loving Looney Tunes I never believed was even possible.

Ever since I first saw the film, I’ve wanted to see it again. Kudos to Ketchup for also recognizing the value of this film. If the deal happens, then we’re assured of at least one fantastic animation release in 2026.
