ILM’s CG Work Is The Biggest Star of New ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ Trailer
Paramount released a trailer tonight for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, arriving in U.S. theaters on June 3, 2016. The live-action/CG hybrid is directed by Dave Green whose only prior feature film is Earth to Echo:
The trailer contains a massive amount of animation and visual effects, and it looks like they’ve smoothed out some of the grotesqueries of the 2014 edition. The cartoonier visual style matches the goofy tone of the trailer, which includes the turtles shooting manhole covers out of their truck, and the re-introduction of classic TV series baddies Bebop and Rocksteady, who have transitioned nicely to the CG universe.
Industrial Light & Magic is leading the charge on the vfx/animation. If you’re wondering how much CG is involved in bringing the turtles to life, the answer is A LOT. Take a look at this interview with ILM vfx supe Pablo Helman talking about the earlier film.
