"Over the Moon" "Over the Moon"

Over the Moon, the feature directorial debut of supreme animator Glen Keane, has a release date. The film will hit Netflix, which produced it, on October 23.

This means that, after a barren summer season, the next two tentpole animated features in the calendar — this and Sony Pictures Animation’s Connected — are now due to come out on the same day. This curious situation may not last; after all, nothing is a given in the 2020 release schedule.

Over the Moon is Netflix’s third self-produced animated feature, after last year’s Klaus and The Willoughbys, which debuted in April. The cg musical adventure was developed at Shanghai’s Pearl Studio. Netflix boarded the project along the way, as did Keane, one of the most prominent character animators of Disney’s renaissance in the 1980s and 1990s (and the director of the Oscar-winning animated short Dear Basketball). Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver is behind the animation.
