Pinocchio Pinocchio

Disney just dropped a full trailer for its upcoming animation/live action hybrid Pinocchio, and the cgi cast – mostly true in design to the 1940 original – gets its full debut.

Premiering September 8th as part of Disney+ Day, the reboot is directed by Robert Zemeckis (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future). The film stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, who was already introduced in an earlier teaser.

This trailer completes the introductions with the cgi wooden-puppet star himself, voiced by The Haunting of Bly Manor actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. The new trailer also gives more screen time to the rest of the film’s cgi characters.

In addition to Ainsworth as Pinocchio, other voices include Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket), Keegan-Michael Key (“Honest” John), and Lorraine Bracco (as the new character Sofia the Seagull). On the live-action side, there’s Cynthia Erivo (Blue Fairy), Luke Evans (The Coachman), Kyanne Lamaya (Fabiana and her marionette Sabina), Sheila Atim (Signora Vitelli), Giuseppe Battiston (Señor Stromboli), and Lewin Lloyd (Lampwick).

The screenplay for Pinocchio was written by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz. Zemeckis, Weitz, Andrew Miano, and Derek Hogue produced, with Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, Jeremy Johns, and Paul Weitz as executive producers.

A full list of vfx and animation service providers isn’t available yet, but we believe the following studios to have been involved in the production: DNEG, MPC, Halon Entertainment, Clear Angle Studios, and Dimension Studios.
